In an exciting opening match for both teams at the Nationals, Syracuse, the #1 seed, faced off against Springfield, the #4 seed. The game proved to be a thrilling contest, with Syracuse emerging victorious in a commanding 8-3 win.

First Period:
Syracuse got on the board midway through the first period with a beautiful dangle by Neve Padulo (#14), assisted by Leah Landry (#23) and Sophie Lauzon (#18).
Just over a minute later, Padulo scored her second of the game in a shorthanded situation, firing a top-corner shot that left Springfield’s goalie with no chance. The assist came from Julianna Bucci (#5).
Springfield responded with a power-play goal from Ashley Welch (#7), assisted by Jasper Russo (#19).
Syracuse closed out the period with a wraparound goal from Leah Landry (#23), unassisted, giving them a 3-1 lead heading into the break.
Second Period:
Springfield made a push early in the second period as Bailey McDevitt (#12) scored, assisted by none other than goaltender Kathryn Gilbert (#32), cutting Syracuse’s lead to 3-2.
However, Syracuse quickly answered with the game-winning goal and completed the Neve Padulo hat trick. Padulo’s third goal, assisted by Carson Schuyler (#22), gave Syracuse a comfortable 4-2 lead.
Third Period:
In the final frame, Ivy Dietrich (#4) scored a goal for Syracuse, assisted by Padulo, bringing the score to 5-2.
Leah Landry then added to Syracuse’s lead with a goal, assisted by Ivy Dietrich, making it 6-2.
Springfield responded with an unassisted goal from Elia Burbidge (#13), but it wasn’t enough to close the gap, as the score moved to 6-3.
Syracuse finished strong with Ivy Dietrich (#4) scoring her second of the game, assisted by Elise Herrick (#21), making it 7-3. Leah Landry then completed her own hat trick with an assist from Padulo, bringing the final score to 8-3.

Neve Padulo (Syracuse) – 3 goals, 2 assists, 5 points. Padulo delivered the first hat trick of the tournament, cementing her as the standout performer.
